86\' CR250 Sputters at High RPMs

I just rebuilt this bike. It wasn,t running when I got it.Power port is clean & timed.I put FMF Torque reeds in, but the reed stops weren't on the bike. Strong low & mid range, but it sputters & goes flat on the top end of the power band. Carb is clean w/ new #55 idle jet & #172 main.
I'm thinking it's probably the reeds. I would like some input before I spend more money.

if possile on that bike take the power valve arm cover off and rev it out to see if the valve is actualy moving... I had a yz125 that the linkage came apart on the bottom so it was opening it. Also...... plugged silencer? timing off?

it is unlikely, but check your plug gap. too large a gap will sometimes lead to missing at high revs

or you may be too fat on the top. put in a new plug and do a test

I took it to the farm & aired it out. It runs great now. Maybe there was funk in the crankcase? It's hard to keep the front tire on the ground.Yeee-High!
