what should I get?

Recently, I decided that I wanted a good used dirtbike for the purposes of getting my self to class(I go to N.C. State) but I mainly want it for off road riding. It will have limited street use. I was just wondering what y'all would recommend. My price range is probably in the area of $2000-$3000 I have seen seen a few 500 cc on/offroad bikes but I was thinking of maybe a 250cc... can you make those street legal? And also the fastest I would have to go on the road is 40mph(its all city streets). Any info would be greatly appreciated.

Re: what should I get?

I would definetely want a 4 stroke... but can you make 250 street legal? Those 500's are kind of pricey

Re: what should I get?

I can't really offer any suggestions on specific models for street legal/offroad or dual purpose bikes in the 250cc range. I ride both street and offroad, but on different bikes. They're aren't many "street legal" two strokes out these days. If I were you, I'd grab a cycle trader and see whats out there in my price range that I liked and go for it. If you don't know much about bikes, grab a bud that does and take him with you to check it out. I know there are some older XL's and TT's out there that are street legal and pretty good thumpers too. Good luck.

Re: what should I get?

to make a dirt bike street legal you have to have the title. check out bajadesigns.com they have kits for these bikes.

kyron, how do i get a title for my 83 xr350? i was thinking of a dual sport conversion

Re: what should I get?

Do you have any paper work for it?

go to your notor veh department and tell 'em its a street bike! if it's never been registered (in cal dirt bikes are dirt registered) they might not know that its a "dirt" bike.

Find out what your states regulations are for street bikes and thats what you have to do....... the baja kits are nice but I'd look at E-line also....

There are a lot of "corners" you can cut to save $$.

Stupid side note.........
I have to have my CR500 emission tested to transfer the street registration from cal to Az.... they say it will pass how that is I have no idea, I guess they just want my MONEY...........
