clutch removal on kx80

Hi, just bought the boys an kx80 for xmas need to replace the clutch but have no ideal on how to remove the nut from the crank shaft, when I tried I broke off part of the basket(now I need a new one), put a pipe between the spokes and they bent so I stopped that now I'm not sure what to try, any info at this time would sure be helpful.

Thanks, Steve.

Re: clutch removal on kx80

you can make ur self a FLYWHEEL holder w/ a piece of wood and roler things. try justkdx.dirtrider.net. just pull off the left side side cover and measure the space between the holes in the flywheel(rotor) and plcee the roler things that space apart.

You really have to get the service manual

taking out the spark plug and putting some rope in there works also..... just dont put it all in there

Re: clutch removal on kx80

A friend of mine's son races on the KX. They worked half the night changing the clutch and basket on it. Doug told me they ended up cutting the nut off. Maybe it's a "thing" with the KX?

Got access to a 1/2" air impact wrench? I've never had one fail to remove a clutch basket nut, just make sure you're turning it in the proper direction.

The impact is what Doug was using trying to get it off.

Re: clutch removal on kx80

Well then Doug should have tried a 3/4" impact.
