Where in the Desert?

I was just wondering where in the desert you guys like to go. I am part of a club and we like to go to a variety of areas. Just would like to hear some stories and maybe even directions.

Thanks,
Kevin

Re: Where in the Desert?

There used to be a ton of places dependent upon what I was planning on doing. Unfortunately they are closing those areas day-by-day.

I used to go to a patch of desert out by the CA Aquaduct, out near Desert Center and on the way to Parker, AZ.

Lately the deal has been to Octillo Wells for my fun, and then some time in Anza Borrego when I want to go check out some neat scenary. All around Ocotillo are some VERY beautiful landscapes...

And then there's always Mexico! I'll take off for a run through the Compadre Trail any time (around checkpoint 2 from the Baja 500 and other races). Of course, some beach camping is nice, where you can take the truck on the beach...

I think that about covers it.

Re: Where in the Desert?

Depends what your into and were you live.

Here in Vegas, I do the following:

-Short trail rides or test sessions are out of the garage and up the road.

-Serious test sessions, we go down to PRIMM.

-Excellent trail riding can be had on the trail system in Overton, NV.

Re: Where in the Desert?

Hey Pat,

Wasn't there some big thingy about the land the PRIMM course runs on? I thought that was going to become some sort of "endangered land" turned "Klinton Airport for the Endangered" or something like that?

Re: Where in the Desert?

You are right but, the latest I hear is that the airport has been shifted to Ivanpah valley which is just accross the border in CA and bordering the Mojave Protection Area. The Eco-Nazis are going ballistic.

Personally, I'd like to see the Mint course come back to racing. it's mostly northwest of town.
