Pictures

When I want a sig. pic, I can't because my pictures are too big a file size, could ORC let me upload the pic and the network automatically resizes it? That would be greatly appreciated. Also, for the pic. address, could it be made shorter, so when added to my sig, I can type a few words? Thanks for the new section of the forums!

Re: Pictures

Go to "www.xat.com" and get their shareware image optimizer. This will crunch the images down to an acceptable size while keeping image quality.

Re: Pictures

Images on the signature makes everything take too long to load. If one's ego is so big they can't live without it, they can provide a link on their signature so kibbitsers can oooh and aaah - or at least they can think someone's admiring them.
Just look at some of the boards that use lots of them, if you have the time to wait for it to load, not worth bothering with.

Re: Pictures

I think pics in sigs is alright. My whole sig is an image. This helps from clogging the search engine. I suggest others on here should look into it. But you'll also notice my image is tiny in file size. So that really shouldn't have an affect on the server. But a pic like Brian's Zuki is 75k. Now if only 1/4 of the people on here have files that size sitting on the server, that's a lot of used HD space. That right there will make the server slower.

Re: Pictures

Yeah, some people's sig pics are wee bit big. Mine is only 20K... it's a medium quality jpg. For most people this is not a problem, but they can add up for modem users. But once it's loaded up, it should stay in your cache for awhile so you only have to d/l it once, unless your browser is setup differently. That is a separate issue though, processing time is the big issue right now, not d/l time.

When I gun this three fifty one, you better run!

Re: Pictures

Rich, I don't think he was asking you if you liked his sig pic or if you thought they were a good idea. Most of us associate people with the trucks they drive, so the sig pic is who they are more than what they drive.

I feel that way to in a way, When I see a certain pic, I know who has posted without even looking at their user name. For me although I don't have a truck in my sig, Most of the folks on the Chevy board know me as "Boomerang Boy". So the pic is an extention of that in a way.
All I want to see with the new BBS is faster of course, And perhaps a limit on the size of sig pics. Perhaps 30K or so. Keep's it a little faster for us 56k users.

Re: Pictures

Hey Brian, just FYI. The file size of your sig pic is waaaaaaaayyyyy too big. You should be using jpeg format and not a bitmap. I've attacted a compressed verion. Same size, same quality, but only 7K vs. 75K for the orignal.

Re: Pictures

JPGs for all!!! No one needs to witness the quality of your images. JPG's are fine and the best bit/size. This reduction could save this site millions of K's (not money, unfortunately -- but I guess maybe indirectly it would be!)

Just because I don't care doesn't mean I don't understand!
