need help in choosing a quad

i am just getteing into racing mx,but i need a quad.i am looking at the z400 or the kfx400.i need some advice on which one to purchase.which quad will need the least amount of work to make it a good,fast and sturdy racer.any help at all will be greatly appreciated.thanks pjs26

If you're planning on taking the racing thing seriously, I would take a good hard look at the new YFZ450 when it hits the showroom floor. Modifications such as adjustable shocks, 440 engine kits etc etc... add up really fast, and if you want to set up a 400ex or Z400 to be competitive with a stock YFZ, you'll most likely end up spending more on either of those by the time you're done buying the new quad, then buying everything to make it race ready. You still may want to do something like get wider A-arms and a wider rear axle someday for the YFZ, but at least Yamaha sells +1 arms for it, and the fully adjustable shocks should still work ok with the Yamaha arms, and since it's already 439cc's you won't have to spend big $$$ on a bigbore kit. Just my thought's on the subject.
