honda foreman es 450 front locker?

My buddy just bought a 2002? honda 450 with electric display on the handle bar and its a 4x4, the other day he got stuck on a rock and only one tire spun on the front, I thought they smartened up and put a locker in there on the newer ones or did they? He is pissed because my broken 4x4 polaris works only in 2-wheel and I made it over it. My cv joints are messed up with over a 1000 miles of torturous deep mud and vampires. I heard there was a switch that goes from 4x2 to 4x4 to 4x4 locked or was it the yamaha? My other friend has an older honda thats a 4x4 and has the same problem when the weight of the machine gets off one tire it then just spins freely, one great feature that the polaris has is a locked front axle when 4x4 is activated. His quad seems pretty good for any regular riding, maybe he will let me take it for a spin even though it has less than 10 miles on it???

I even have the tire off the ground about 3 inches!

Re: honda 450 front locker?

the new Yamaha Grizzly has the locker system you are talking about (4x2, 4x4, 4x4 locked) and i believe that the Prairie 650 does as well but i am not sure on that one. Honda has a new design in progress but i dont know if it is in production as of yet. Highlifter makes a locker for several honda quads, he might want to check into that. http://www.highlifter.com/ hope this helps

Re: honda 450 front locker?

Finally someones talking utility. Honda did put a 2wd/4wd switch on the 450es, but it still does not lock. The grizz 660 has 4wd,2wd, and 2wd lock. The prarie 650 has 2wd/4wd, and a lever on the left handlebar near the brake i think that as you pulls it engages the clutch plates in the front diff. allow the front wheels to lock up and spin. I don't know why more people don't put lockers in. I mean suzukis been doin it for over a decade why can't honda come up with something more than a 2wd 4wd switch, give me a break other companies have had that for years. All honda has to there advantage is "reliability" and the hondumatic transmission.
