Wheel compatibility????

Ok, I've got a '96 Explorer 300. There's a big wheel kit in the paper for sale that fits a 98 Sportsman 500. I know the 2000 Sportsman we have has a different bolt pattern on the back but I think the front is the same as the explorer. Anybody know what if the 98 is gonna have the same pattern as the 2000 or (hopefully) the same as the Explorer?

Also, they have a plastic set for the 500. It looks like the shape is the same, or real close, to the Sportsman. Think it would take much to make it fit?

Re: Wheel compatibility????

there is a good chance that the wheels will fit. alot of manufactures try to use the same bolt patterns wherever possible to help the factorys save money when making the original parts. check out a website that specializes in Polaris stuff and they should list bolt patterns there. i found several sites for Suzuki's and Yamaha's a while back when i was looking at different rims. as far as the plastic goes, you could possibly alter it to make it fit, but unless you are getting it really really cheap then i would advise against it and just save and get replacement plastic that is designed for your machine. hope some of this helps.

Re: Wheel compatibility????

Just call the guy selling it and have him measure the bolt distance across the pattern for you.

Re: Wheel compatibility????

K, I called the guy about them. The back wheels have a bigger bolt pattern, the same as the front of ours. I guess I have another question then. How would a spacer/adapter plate work? It would be really easy to make. I'm gonna go take some measurements for it now and see if it will work worth a crap.

Re: Wheel compatibility????

The Sportsman should have a independent rear suspension, if so the back wheels will not fit, however the fronts are the same
