Suz LT125 Axle

My son's quad (85 Suzuki LT125) has a lot of play in the rear axle. The whole axle shaft moves around, not just the hubs. I'm guessing it will need new bearings. Also needs a new chain and sprockets. The teeth on the rear sprocket are badly worn. I wonder if this has something to do with the axle moving around? The axle has a grease zerk, and I pumped several shots into it and did not see any grease come out anywhere. What will be involved in getting this axle fixed? I will do it myself. Any special tools required? Thanks.
