Raptor Sprocket ???

I recently purchased a Yamaha Raptor and it's one mean machine. My question is first gear takes off like a bat out of hell and it seems when I switch to second it dies on me. Someone I was riding with said maybe if I got a bigger sprocket second gear wouldn't be so weak. Any suggestions

Re: Raptor Sprocket ???

A bigger rear sprocket will help out. A smaller front sprocket will have the same effect. Usually, 1 tooth on the front sprocket is worth about 3 teeth on the back sprocket.

The smaller the front sprocket, the quicker a chain can wear out.

Front sprockets are cheaper.

If you can swing it, go 2-3 more teeth on the back.

Re: Raptor Sprocket ???

Just for your info i have had a Raptor front 12-tooth (1 smaller)sprocket on backorder for 5 weeks from White Brothers. It is a Renthal sprocket. I have heard though that Parts Unlimited has another brand sprocket in stock. The White Bros is $15

Re: Raptor Sprocket ???

Ive heard that if your going to go with a differant sprocket you should go with a new (larger) rear , not a front due to the fact that you will wear out the chain guides on the swingarm faster
