ATC 350X exhaust opinions

I've got an '85 350X that's all stock. I recently acquired an 86 that's pretty beat cosmetically, but runs strong. I have been swiping some of the nice parts from the 86 for my 85. I noticed the 86 was quite a bit more powerful than mine, and this appears to be due to a 38mm Mikuni and a DG pipe. I'm going to keep the pipe and carb for mine (replacing them on the 86 with my stock units) but really want a pipe that is somewhat quieter than the DG. Any suggestions? I'd like to keep the outlay as low as possible... I've seen a Cobra aluminum setup- the "Cobra Jet" system- that comes with a header pipe for about $160. Are there any cheaper slip-ons that would do the trick and cost less??

If you have experience with any of these setups, or know where I can find what I'm looking for, please reply!

Re: ATC 350X exhaust opinions

I don't remember if the cobra jet is the reverse megaphone model, if it is it's loud. If you are looking to keep the noise down, pretty much anything with a built in spark arrestor will do it. The only problem is you don't get as much power increase with them as the louder units without them.
I recently did my atc 185 exhaust with a cobra unit, it made it a little louder than stock (not too much), and made the exhaust note alot deeper added a little power as well, i now can raise the front wheel in third with no problem, where i could bearly do it befor.
If i remember a few different companies made exhaust's for the 350x so you should have some options when you decide to do the change over.

Re: ATC 350X exhaust opinions

Used to have an 85 350x with a Super trapp header and rear section(no discs) and it is way LOUD.

It hammers, in part to having a stroker in it.
