Pops out of gear

My wife has a 98 yamaha warrior 350. When the bike gets hot and is going wide open in 5th it pops out of gear. All other gears seem fine including 5th until it gets hot. Does anybody have an explanation of why this might be happening, and what I can do to remedy this problem?

Re: Pops out of gear

i know this can happen if the shift forks are bent, i dont know of any other reason for it but there probably are others, my warrior likes to find a false neutral between 5th and 6th when it gets hot..it kinda startles you when it nails top rpm like that...

Re: Pops out of gear

I agree with 98 Warrior. If the shift rail is bent it will hold everything together on the lower gears but as you move up on the shift rail its integrity is compromised to a degree simply because there is less applied torque. Hard shifting will eventually bend this fork, over time. Once the engine is hot everything is loosened up and this is enough IE: (a few thousands) to allow the gear to slip out. When this ooccurs you are creating further and "accelerated" wear in that area. If your mechanically inclined and have the service manaul you can do the job yourself.
Happy riding from canada.

I also would point at the shift fork, as I have experienced this on a bike before...but never on my quad....
