Yamaha YTM Rear End

I have a 1986 Yamaha YTM 200 and want to know if anyone out there knows if there should be play (up and down) in the rear end, where the axle goes into the rear hub (on either side) or should it be solid with no movememt at all?

Mine seems to have a considerable amount of play when I move the rear end back and forth. If so, does this mean I need rear end work?

Re: Yamaha YTM Rear End

Sounds to me like you need to replace the rear axle bearings. I'd reccomend you do this asap , as excessive movement here will eventually cause damage to the axle or carrier, or boh. Bearings and seals are inexpensive in comparision.
