Custom Quads?

I've been having thoughts lately about building a custom quad with a XR400 or XR650 motor, tranny, ect in some sort of quad frame. Gear it for low end power so I can have a woods bike that'll keep up with warriors in the turns and outpower banshees on the straightaways. Anyone done something like this?

Re: Custom Quads?

yeah I like the raptor, but I'm talking about something that I can use my own ingenuity to build on a budget.

Anyone have links to custom frames, hot rodded quads with huge engines, or anything of the like?

Re: Custom Quads?

nope no links, jus there to say that i am dissipointed with the size of the raptor, i would expect a 660 to not only outpower every quad, but for christ sakes, why didn't they just put it in a Blaster frame??!!

Re: Custom Quads?

the reason Yamaha Raptor has such a short wheel base is so it will manuver in tight spots like the woods, and so they could keep the weight under 400 LBS. (for Quickness)otherwise they would of had a Bombadear 650 ds

Re: Custom Quads?

That's true, they are really light for being the biggest engine out.

Re: Custom Quads?

Laketex,

did you find anything out or did you ever build your quad? sounds interesting, since a buddy of mine has a Kawasaki Mojave frame with everything but a motor :-) just wondering
