Exclamation Hi Guys and Girls I need help!!!

I have a 1985 quad racer. Its been stored for 8 years, while I have been gone.
Runs great but shifting is the pits. 1st and 2 gear are great but trying to get to 3rd i have half shift down then shift up like going to neutral and all the way up to fifth. Then sometimes it will go in but it goes hard. Clutch feels good. I have at least 2 inches of play on my shift lever???? What could it be?

I live in Lake Tahoe 2 doors down from the Rubican entrance. I need to ride.
Anything you could help me with would be great.

thanks for the Help J.B.

Check your clutch plates and what kind of oil are using for the gears and wet clutch. I used to own an 88 swithed to amsoil 0w-40 and noticed a difference in shifting.
