1983 ATC 185 clutch

Clutch is slipping. Seems stronger in first gear but slips bad in all other gears. I want to start by checking the adjustment but don't want to do it wrong. I know where the adjuster is on the right side and that you loosen the nut and turn the center adjuster but I do not know how much to adjust or what to check. Can someone please explain. I most likely need the clutch plates. Where is the best place to get these? Thanks

Re: 1983 ATC 185 clutch

I got a 1983 185s myself (has a auto clutch, but has the same manual I assume you have a standard clutch since the auto has no real adjustment). you loosen the locknut then turn the adjuster screw untill you you feel slight resistance, then stop. after this you turn the screw back out 1/8 turn and tighten the locknut as you hold the screw in this position. the manual says to ride and readjust if needed, honestly if you have trouble and can't get a good clutch after a few tries i would look into the plates for wear.
good luck, hope this works for you,
