Suzuki LT4WDX question

I am working on a friend's quad that doesn't run very well. It is a 1991 - 1993 Suzuki with the 280 cc 4 stroke engine. Up to now I have always worked on 2 stroke engines. First thing I looked at was compression. It reads 85 lbs when I use the manual start. However when I spin it over using the electric start it only reads 45 lbs. What could possibly cause the difference in readings? The Clymer manual says 114 is the lower limit for compression at sea level. I live in Calgary, Alberta so altitude is about 3400 feet so I would expect closer to 105 for minimum. Also where is the frame serial number located on these quads? Thanks in advance for any help you can give.

Re: Suzuki LT4WDX question

How about the speed with which the engine turns? Got a weak battery? Serial number on lower left frame (I think...very possibly wrong). Yeah, it needs an engine rebuild. Have fun!

Re: Suzuki LT4WDX question

It turns over faster using the electric starter so I would think if anything it would give a higher number.
