piston rings

i have a 2003 predator, it was recently submerged in water, and engine filled up with water now it smokes real bad i was told this is because my piston rings are messed up now, i have tried changing oil but that didnt help, the parts themselves arent that exepensive but the labor is...i was wondering is this to diffucult of a job to do myself, i dont know much about the engine on atv's but with instructions and maybe a little help is it possible to do myself
