Warrior Engine Swap

I have a '95 Warrior that started making noise. In inspecting the
engine, the oil was quite low.

I'm contemplating swapping in a different engine. Will Warrior
engines made from '87 to '89 swap right in or is there more involved?

Thanks for any help.

Re: Warrior Engine Swap

The only difference I can think of is the older models have a pull start backup. I dont know of any other difference.

Re: Warrior Engine Swap

Hey man, I think I know what it is. The problem you're having is a bad one-way starter clutch assembly. Yamafast is notorious for having these things go bad. I have had to replace one in my Raptor. It sounded like the gear was broke in my starter, but actually, this solenoid, is not engaging the starter gears to the flywheel completely. That is the only thing it sounds like to me. Mine made a noise that sounded like it was going to fly apart when you tried to start it also. Hopefully this fixes your problem.

They have never changed anything except the color of the plastic. You could put a 87 engine in a 03 model. You may want to check your valve clearance w/ a feeler gauge if its been awile. The cheapest thing to do, is to rebuild the engine.

Re: Warrior Engine Swap

They are all pretty much the same. I bought a complete spare motor (92) for mine cheap. I took my 96 top end off wich was near perfect and kept that one in case something happend. Took the older jug and head and had it ported bored, new valves, bearings, cam followers, rockers, racing cam, blah blah installed. So if anything goes wrong with the built motor, I still have a complete spare to install while the modified mill is being repaired. Should have the older motor's lower end reworked and have a stroker crank installed.
