Z4oo all the way. Costs the same, Weighs less, is faster, has reverse, is liquid cooled. And it responds better to engine mods. They haven't been out long, but the only reported problems with early ones was axle bending, which they later addressed. And the dr400 has always been a super reliable bike. Thats where they got the motor from.

If you are talking new then get a Z400. But if talking used you can get a really nice deal on a 400EX right now.

Re: z400 or 400ex

I've been seeing posts where people have been buying new 400ex's for $4,600. I'm not sure if the Suzuki/Kawi's are getting much of a discount from the $5,700 sticker. That $1,100 bucks could buy a nice 440kit, helmet and some other gear.

Re: z400 or 400ex

yeah i was calling around today and i found two 03' 400ex's for under 4,850. and the z400 for 5,700. plus with honda you get $300 cash at time of purchase to buy gear and stuff at the dealership so im most likely going with honda on this one.

Also with Honda they offer a rider course, and after completed, they give you a hundred bucks .... Cool

The Honda is such a proven and reliable machine which is why I bought one. I liked the Z400, but until its proven, and any bugs worked out, the Honda was the choice for me. I've found that it is plenty fast stock and with a few mods can really fly. Every mod out there is readily available for the Honda too. I saw a 440 kit complete with exhaust, cam, etc and guaranteed 39Hp. I thought I'd save some cash and be riding rather than looking at my new ATV in the garage with a bent axle. Don't get me wrong, I don't think I ride hard enough to bend anything, but you never know. I'd give the Suzuki/Kawi a year or two, but by then Honda may just come out with a new killer Can't wait to see what they got up their sleeves.
