warrior chain problems

My brother has a 1993 warrior and I tightened the chain the other day. There is about an inch of slack in the chain so I believe that it has the right tension. The problem is that when you turn sharp the chain make a clunking sound. It sounds like the chain is hitting something but we cannot figure it out. We have adjusted the chain and checked everything out and everything looks fine. I am stumped so any help would be great.

Re: warrior chain problems

Good idea... and while you have the quad lifted, be sure to check for any free play in the wheel hubs. Grasp them at 12 o'clock and 6 o'clock and try to wiggle them. Do the same at 3 and 9 o'clock. If any movement at all, re-torque the hub nuts to specs .
Also, if the chain is the original, you should check for stretch by grasping a link at the rear sprocket at 3 o;clock. When pulling the link away from the teeth, if 1/2 a link shows, the chain is stretched beyond safe specs & should be discarded before ruining the sprockets. This shouldn't cause your noise problem but may prevent another problem.

Re: warrior chain problems

also check to see if maybe your chain is dragging on the chain guids
