Re: Two-Way Radios

I've seen lots of ads for radios in magazines and catalogs - hoping for recommendations from someone actually using them.

Re: Two-Way Radios

Did you say 5 mile or .5 mile. The 4 Watt UHF Radios don't have all of the features you're looking for such as VOX (be ready to drop $250-$500). The FRS radios will be able to give you 1 mile if you're lucky.

If you're talking 1/2 mile, then the Motorola FRS radios are nice.

If you want UHF or VHF handheld type radios, motorola has the "Spirit" line. You don't need service or licensing and they've got 10 times the power of FRS.

Audiovox has a cool radio. It's FRS and GMRS (requires service contract) and also have GPS display. It also has all of the features you were talking about before. Here's one at Yahoo Shopping: http://shop.store.yahoo.com/shoplifestyle/gp213.html
