Advice on Buying ATV

Hi everyone,
I'm looking to buy a sport quad, something that will see trails and some mud quite often, but I still want something that I could race if I choose to go that route. My experience is somewhat limited on a quad, although I do have experience on ATC's, Snowmobiles, and Motorcycles. I'm not a small guy either, about 6'3 and 225lbs. So with all that out of the way I was thinking DS650 (for it's size and power), Raptor (worried about size), and 400EX (but I'm worried about it being underpowered).
If anyone has any opinions or information that would like to share, I'd greatly appreciate it.

Thanks.
Anthony

Re: Advice on Buying ATV

I have a 2001 Raptor, I do some dune riding, motocross racing , and trail riding, I am 6 ft. tall and weigh 210 lbs. I absallutly love my ride , it does everything I want it to, and looks good doing it, I have ridden a DS650 , it has more travel in the suspention than the
raptor, but it is heavier so it needs it , it semed under powered to me , but I just got off my Raptor , then jumped on it , so maybe it was a unfair comparison, due to the fact my Raptor isnt stock, but just the same it felt underpowered

What kind of racing are you thinking about? If you are talking MX I think the DS650 might be too heavy. If you are talking cross crountry or desert I think the DS650 baja might be a perfect fit for your size.

I agree with the last writer. If considering the DS, I would also strongly recommend you spend the few hundred extra and get the "baja"

Re: Advice on Buying ATV

The Baja DS650 is only 99 bucks more, or so Bombardier says. But what about repair costs, aren't they supposedly a lot higher than a yam or honda? I understand that you have to pay to play, but I'm not big on spending a lot more than I have to. If it's only a few bucks here and there, that's different than paying 100 bucks for spark plugs. As far as racing goes, I was thinking more cross country. i'd always figured I'd be too big for MX. I am leaning towards the DS650, but the Raptor and EX are very close behind... I've heard really good things about both in the archives, but not much really about the DS650. Thanks for your help so far though!
