Polaris Scrambler, how to take off the hub

Ive got a something in the front wheel of a polaris scrambler 400 '96. Cant get the hub off to look inside, could be half shaft, could be knuckle, but I can't see in. How do I get off the whole hub and brake disk to see inside?

Re: Polaris Scrambler, how to take off the hub

Should be the same as my '99 400Xplorer. Remove caliper, 3 screws that hold the centre cap on the hub, remove the cotter pin, remove the axle nut, slide off hub! Make sure not to over tighten the hub nut when assembling, otherwise your 4x4 will act up big time!

Re: Polaris Scrambler, how to take off the hub

Theres only one set screw on the hub of a scrambler. Does anyone have a chilton they could copy a pic out of? Thanks.

Re: Polaris Scrambler, how to take off the hub

I think that set screw you are looking at is for filling the hub with oil. But to take the hub off, just take off the cap with the torque screws. That can suck sometimes.....it can really get stuck in there. Then it'll just be like any other hub. take out the cotter pin and back off the nut. I think you have to take off the swingarm too if you want to take it apart without taking off the short axle. What kind of problems are you having with the hub anyways???? Oh one other thing....don't take the clutch apart for the four wheel drive when you get in there! Just slide it off and set it aside or maybe clean it up a bit but don't take the spring off!
