Re: V8 in a 83 CJ7, Ford302 or chevy 350

Well I am kind of alone in this opinion but I do not think that the 302 is a good jeep engine. After driveing my fathers bronco with the 302 I think it lacks the lowend torque to be a good off road engine. The 302 has a bore X stroke of 4.00 X 3.00 compaired to the 351 with 4.00 X 3.50 and the chevy 350 with 4.00 X 3.48. That .5 inch difference in stroke makes alot of difference in where the torque peak is and what the torque is off idle. Don't get me wrong the 302 is a good engine but not in my opinion good for off road use.
Why not use a 351, it has the same exteral dimentions as a 302 and gives more torque and power at lower RPM.
