Don't HIT THE PULLER!! what you want is to palce a brass punch down between the two sheaves on the shaft then strike the punch and give the puller a turn or what you can and repeat until clutch is off.ONLY use a BRASS punch or you'll score up the primary shaft,BAD!!.if you think the puller is starting to twist take it out and get a new one.I used a twisted one and paid for it when it snapped off inside the shaft and stripped the treads on my crank,quite a mess.also try penetrating fluid down where the puller goes and also the back side of the primary,against the crank seal this may help loosen things.make sure you really clean up after or you'll have trouble with belts later on.hope this helps.
