Just wondering. I was told that the 1.6L is actually a stroked 1.3L. Is this true? If so, can you swap cranks? I would tend to disbelieve the whole stroked theory, as if it were true someone would have done it but now (and made a kit). Anyone got the poop on this?
The 1.6 is a stroked 1.3. Blocks are almost identical except the 1.6 is about an inch taller. Haven't examined the cranks side by side though. Easy way to tell is see if they have the same part #.
I'll be able to tell you in about 2 weeks (I hope). I should be exposing the crank on a 1.6 in a few days. That is, if I can get those %#*& 10 screws out of the cam/rocker arm shaft off.
If I remember correctly, the 1.6 has a larger bore and stroke. And I seem to remember different journal sizes. But if they matched up lengthwise along the block there could be a possibility of stroking. Personally, I'm just going to rebuild the 1.6.
Glen, thanks for the email. I think you convinced me to get the OME springs.
