Well, if its not bent and dented, do put a CORK gasket on it. If there is a cork gasket on it, the cover may be distorted. Transmission pans (autos) normqally have rediculously LOW torque requirements....like in the single digit (1-9) ft. pounds. Check the service manual. If the pans straing and you've got a good new cork gasket, and torqued the bolts properly, you should be leak free...you may also want to give one of the offending bolts another 1/16th of a turn to additional snugness if the pan is tweaked a little....
