zimm how is the WC T-5 holding up. My NWC T-5 just lost reverse so I was thinking WC T-5 but am worried about doing the same to it.

Have you have any problems with the WC.

As far as gears I calculate it as fallows.

5280 X 12 / (tire height X 3.14) = turns per mile. for 33 inch tires this is 611. NOTE: for a more accurate tire height measure the distence for the ground to the center of the hub and times by 2.

turns per mile X speed / 60 = RPM of rear wheels. For 33's at 70 MPH this is 713.

Now we must get the engine RPM's to the wheels. Ratio = Engine RPM / (OD X RPM at rear wheels). For 33's at 70 MPH and 2700 engine RPM this is 4.56.

Here are some other ratio's at 70 and 55 MPH

Engine RPM = RPM at rear wheels X axle ratio X OD.


here are my results for 33's at 70 MPH.

ratio ........ Engine RPM
3.07 ........ 1817
3.54 ........ 2095
3.73 ........ 2207
4.10 ........ 2426
4.56 ........ 2699
4.88 ........ 2888


For 33's at 55 MPH

ratio ........ engine RPM
3.07 ........ 1427
3.54 ........ 1646
3.73 ........ 1734
4.10 ........ 1906
4.56 ........ 2120
4.88 ........ 2269

I hope the above is of some help. If you only are trying to improve your crawl ratio then a lower transfer case gear set might be a beter choice as it will not harm your highway gearing.
