I just got rid of my chrome rims for this reason - too hard to take care of. But what I did do to keep them looking like new for 4 years thru the winter was to coat them with cooking spray like Pam in the fall. Remember that oily things don't rust. In the spring they were black from the salt and sand. I would scrub them with rim cleaner and a nylon brush. Each spring they would shine like new for the whole summer. Now I have black AR's.
