Re: 84 Grand Wagoneer Engine Swap

If you can afford it, the Magnum engine works great, can be smog legal in the Peoples' Republic of CA and would make more power without loss of mileage over the AMC 360. The Howell 360 efi kit is easy to install on the original 360 as is the Holly kit, but I don't think they are smog legal yet. If you use a Magnum engine, the 93-95 EFI setup is easier to adapt to an older vehicle. Be aware that there are no kits or aftermarket wire harnesses like the bellybutton brands have available, so it is a make-it-yourself proposition all the way. I put a '95 Dakota EFI/ZJ engine and NV3500 5 speed trans in my CJ8, and I don't regret it one bit. The mounts weren't too hard to make but the wiring would be a bear for a non-Chrysler/Jeep tech to adapt. Hope this helps, good luck!
