Are you talking about the nuts on the ball joints or the knuckle itself? If nuts then put a breaker bar on there and slip a piece of pipe over it to give yourself more leverage; if you're talking about the knuckle itself, well they can be stubborn. Use a hand sledge and beat on the ears of the "C", not the knuckle itself. You have to hit all around it and fairly hard. When I removed mine, I thought they would never come off, but persistence and a bigger sledge hammer won the day. Don't have your foot under it, cuz when they come off it is sudden and they are heavy enough to make you use a few choice words upon impact.
