Building rocker protectors

I want to build my own rocker protectors and would like to know if I use 3/16"(maybe 4"x4") angle iron bolted to the rockers if they would be strong enough without being mounted to the frame. I would also like to weld a bar on the rockers to keep the jeep off the rocks and trees. Any info or pics would be great. Thanks.

Experience always comes right after you need it.

I have used the 3/16" angle iron and it works pretty good but the 1/4" holds up better to the hard blows. We don't attach them to the frame, just to the body tub. We have put some really hard hits on these things and so far have taken everything put at them.
On the last one that I put together we used 3/16" tread plate first then put the 3/16" angle iron on to act as a slider for the underneath of the tub. I haven't gotten to test it out yet but I think they will be almost indestructible.
