Re: Which 4.0 Head for 4.2 swap

I can't tell you about the '97 and newer 4.0s, but the casting number is 7120. Any 7120 head should be identicle as to overlap. I haven't heard of the problems with long push rods....mine worked fine from my '82 258 block.

You will need to either tap 1/2" holes in your block or use insert washers to line up the head using 7/16" bolts. Tim Weaver's article references Clifford as a source, but I was only able to find them through ARP, they are called Insert Washers. If I remember, the ID is 7/16" and the OD is .506. I only used two of these at opposite corners to get it lined up. The 7/16" head bolts from Mopar are $20 a piece. That alone may justify having the block tapped for 1/2" bolts (Tim's article says the whole set of 1/2" bolts is only $20).

Let me know if you have any other questions.
