Installing a tach

I'm trying to install a tachometer on my 4.3l 93 s-10 blazer. I'm not very good with electronics. The tach has four wires coming out of it. White, hook up to dimmer switch. Green, hook up to the negative on the ignition coil. Black, hook up to negative batery terminal. Red, hook up to a power source that is only on when the truck is on, not in accessory. My question is about the green and white. On my dimmer switch there is five wires, which should I splice the white wire into? And where is the negative on the coil for the green wire, I can't remember where but I heard that you can hook it up to the prong on the distributor where the number one spark plug hooks up to, is this true? Please help. Thanks.

Lack of engine proformance equals a limp shaft.
