Re: CJ7 Rear leaf spring problem?

I kinked a front much worse than that over two years ago. Put it in the shop press and fiddled with it for a while and got it back where it's supposed to be. It's worked fine ever since.

The trick is to devise a method for measuring bend you put in with the press. Then release the pressure and check the results. If you need more go a little farther. Repeat until it's where it should be.

Use relatively small steps. I supported the spring about three inches on either side of the kink. Initially I bent it maybe a half inch. That did nothing, so I gave it 3/4". That straightened it a little, so from there on I went in 1/8" increments until it was good as new. Those numbers may not be exact - my memory isn't what it used to be but that's the idea.
