It has been said here that a fusible link is more reliable, has less resistance, and doesn't deteriorate with use and time the way a fuse will.

I don't recall who has said that, so I can't say that I'm confident that it's so, or that a fuse still isn't better because it can be more easily diagnosed and replaced.
