Clutch bleeding

A friend of mine has a 95' Wrangler Sahara, and has a question about his clutch. He says when he's upshifting, the transmission shifts through all the gears fine. When he's downshifting, 5-4, 4-3 is ok, but from 3-2, he has to hold the clutch in longer, all the way to the floor, and it's a little stiff going in. And from a stop going into reverse, the motor has to be at the lowest point of idle to go in. Would bleeding the clutch system help with his problem? He told me that the fluid in the resevoir was dark also. Thanks.
