Gas tank woes... Do I need a new one??

OK, I dropped the gas tank in order to test the sender and to figure out where a leak was coming from. Good news: the sender is fine. Bad news: my tank is malformed on the bottom. In fact, the "reserve tank" (a small open top box in which the pump filter fits) has broken off and was moving around the tank. If I try to reinstall the pump/sender, it bottoms out a good inch before it's supposed to. I don't know what caused this problem. The factory skid plate is not damaged or dented and I don't know if I can reform the tank and have it stay. I don't think I can fix the reserve tank. Dealer price for a new tank is $427. I can think of a lot more fun ways to spend 400 bucks but I'm also somewhat of a perfectionist and I want my Jeep to be right including accurate gauge readings. What's the name of the online used parts finder? I can't seem to get it right. As far as the leak goes, evidence is inconclusive but I suspect a worn breather tube. Any suggestions will be much appreciated. Thanks.
