Alpha Sport 90 Kolt stock racing

Here is my problem, We are new to racing. My son is 10 and we bought him a 2004 alpha sport 90cc kolt 2 sroke for drag racing. Since it was under warrenty we did nothing for a while with it. Initially my son was beating a Honda TRX 4 stroke (also 2004) brand new machine and receiving 1st and 2nd place trophys. Now all of a sudden the Honda had some work done to it and it has became much faster. My son has been placing 3rd and 4th which I think is still great but now we must improve his machine. What can you do to a machine to keep it stock and make it faster? The only thing we tried is to change the sprocket. We have not found the right combination and the machine last race was slower. If anyone could give us a list of things to do and the right sprocket numbers it would be of much help. Thank you. Racing MOM!!!!
