Yamaha JT1/JT2

Hi all. I have a dumb question for you. I'm looking to buy a JT1/JT2 for my husband's birthday - it's was the first bike he ever rode.

So, my challenge is that I don't know too much about them, what they should cost, and what I should be looking out for when buying. Is the JT2 better than the JT1?

I'm not looking for a mint-condition bike by any means, but I don't want the bent frame/broken spokes model either. There's a few on e-bay that are less than $500 that seem like good deals, but then again, i wouldn't know what a good deal is on a JT1/2.

Any buying tips anyone has would be greatly appreicated. It seems there's a shortage of information on this subject on the internet and I'm kinda flying blind.
