electrical ground/voltage regulator/92 kawasaki 300 bayou 4x4

1992 Kawasaki KLF 4x4 bayou

wounder if anyone can tell me if they have ever experienced failer of voltage regulator with one burnt wire at the connection to the regulator,which is black with yellow tracer. Unit will not run without jump-pack or charged battery. Please respond as this is my elderly father's machine which he wishes now to use quite often due to his retirement. thank-you.
