Honda FourTrax 300 help removing pinion bearing!!!

I recently bought a 300 fourtrax from a friend..the rear diff was tossed and the bearings are bad...I have the rebuild kit but I can't go any further. I need to remove the old pinion bearing, any suggestions on how to get the darn thing out? I've tried the pinion bearing puller that I have to no avail, tried a little heat on the housing-nothing there either, the retainer ring seems to be holding me up...how does it come out????
