Default dealerships and trd stuff

Hey all

I'm new to the forum, so I'll keep it short -- sort of.

Have you noticed that the TRD stuff is really expensive and fairly low quality? I have friends that have the TRD headers, and they leak worse than the cheapo ones you get thru JC Whitney -- and for $800.00 no less. I have a few other TRD goodies, and I feel like I have gotten a bad deal out of all of it -- especially the supercharger.

After seeing the Gadget online website and talking to the guys at Maxx Autoworks, they confirmed my suspicions:
it makes the truck run super lean, enough to blow the engine to bits.
TRD sells this thing, and has no intension of ever getting it to work right. They eventually throw out the carrot of a "fix", but it is something like a smaller pulley to make it not produce any boost. I have been to the dealer about a dozen times about various problems with the super, including the fact that it puked all its guts out of its front seal. I always get the same "we asked TRD, and are waiting for them to get back to us."

I will probably go with the Maxx package, but it is a shame that TRD was unwilling to get it working right on their own.

Needless to say, I will be buying the extended warranty on the engine.

John

I'm not familiar with the SC'er, do you have the first or second generation? I have heard that with the 2nd gen. SC that they don't have the problems of the 1st.

it's a 1.5 gen. They did a little doodling around with pulleys and hoses to make it a little better than the original ones by cutting out some boost, but it is not the black 2nd gen one. The new ones are a little better, but this is because they put out even less boost. Instead of getting ~70 hp, they are probably down to about 40- 50. Not bad, but not the right direction of working out the real bugs.
