Default Tachometer

HI all, question, has anyone installed an aftermarket tachometer in their Taco? I have a '98, 4 cyc, 2 whl, ext. cab and would like to find out where to connect the tach wire since the new Taco's are distributorless. Many thanks,
AAM

Hi AAM,

If you ever find out, please let me know. I have a 99 2.7L 4 cyl in my prerunner and would like to install a tachometer as well. Like you, I have no idea where to connect the wire to. I know that in the older, distributor-type engines the tach wire on Toyotas was a solitary black one that came out of the igniter. I have no idea where the igniter is (if there is one on our distributor-less engines), much less what it is or what it looks like.

Please keep us posted if you find anything. Take care,

The tach wire for your 2.7 Taco is the single black wire coming out the top of the igniter. The igniter is located on the pass. side wheelwell aft of the airbox, cant miss it it has a plug wire attaching to the coil on the front of the engine. Just splice into that black wire w/your tach wire and your set. G/L

Fish, just to sound like a complete idiot, but would it be the same on the 2.4L engine?

Yes, the igniter is on the passenger side fender well, aft of the airbox. Cant miss it, tap into the black wire coming outa the top. Thats the tach wire.

Hi Fish,

I hate to sound like a complete moron, but what does the igniter look like? I understand it's on the passenger side fenderwell, but when I open the hood, all I see is an encased wire loom with what appears to be some sort of a plug connection. Is that it?

Thanks for the info.
