| | 99 Tacoma Suspension Lift Hi,
I have a 4cyl 99 Tacoma SR5 ext cab. Right now it has 31 in tires but i want to put a 2 in suspension lift on it so i can put 33's on it. I was wondering what would be the best lift to put on it that will be easy to put on and won't affect the brakes, steering geometry, etc. too much. Also so it will still be good for on-road and highway driving. |

But it sounds like a nice set of coilovers(kings, hoes, SAW's, etc) are what you are looking for in the front and a new leaf pack with about 1.5 inchs in the rear. If you do not want to spend that much on the rear then you can just get a block or add leaf but it will not be as smooth on road and may effect braking a little.

For the rear suspension a Deaver 7 leaf spring pack and Bilstein 5100 rear shocks which combined will give 2-3 in of lift. This is supposed to be able to clear 33 in tires. My question is if I install a lift like this, will I also have to put in new gears to make up for loss of torque? Or will I be able to get away without them?
Thanks |

| | well that is the game you play with lifts and tires. All i see is that you have the 4 banger which coule be a 2.4 or 2.7. If it is the 2.7 you might be ok but I would think you will lose 5th gear in the freeway when going up hills. The only way to know is to do it and see if you can live with the difference. If not then yes you will want to regear. If you do it and it is not that bad then you will be able to live with it.

| | Thanks for all the advice. Ive got one more question. This truck will still be a DD including a small stretch of highway. If I put the lift on will it put too much strain on the CV's to drive daily. |

| | well if you stay with 2inch and 33's or I would go with 32's it will be fine. More stress yes, but not more then it can live with.

| | I am trying to solve a problem here. I have a 2000 Tacoma with a 3 inch spacer lift and a 3 inch body lift. Within 2 months of doing the lifting, I have had the rear brakes go out completely, and the entire driveline go out. Now, the guys at the dealership said that when I put the suspension lift on, it threw the driveline angles off, therefore destroying the u joints. I have done lifts before, and I tought that the whole idea of the lift block being tapered was to correct the driveline angle. The fact of the matter is I deliver food 12 hours a day in this thing, and it has 180,000 miles on it. My question is did the lift tear it up or the excessive wear and tear of delivering pizzas for the past 8 years? I realize a lifted truck is not the best vehicle to deliver in, but I am not worried about the shitty gas mileage. 200 a night in tips covers that, but what I am worried about is what problems I will encounter if I were to go with a 33 inch bogger, or thornbird, other than the gas mileage. Problems such as brakes, steering components, transmission, that type of problem. |

| | sounds like the lift and the miles caught up to it and those things went bad. I do not understand why you would lift and and larger tires on your truck if you drive that many miles. Just take those things out and solve all the problems. HOw often did you get your driveline lubed? did you do it or a oil change place? when was the last time you had your rear brakes inspected?

But you WILL RUIN INTO MORE WEAR AND TEAR. So that is all part of the game. If you want to play you will have to pay. How often to you lube the driveline of your truck.
