Default front diff

I am running a 98 Tacoma, 3.5" lift, 5 speed manual, on 33's. my truck has just about every mod i need, from the supercharger through the exhaust. i am looking at going with 4.56 gearing but am having trouble finding a new front diff. i have been to at least 30 off-road sites and the only thing i can find is SAS kits that i am not interested in. any help on where to locate front taco diffs would be great.

so you need the outside body(aka clam shell) or do you need just the gears? I am very confussed on what it is you are looking for. YOu can keep your front diff and just swap gears.. What is it you need?

why would you want that? it would cost the same to just have them switch the gears in your current diff. The front diff is not the classic third member that just comes in and out like the rear and the old 85 and older fronts. It is a clamshell style that requires the front to be taken apart to switch the gears or the whole thing like you want. Just get the gears and an install kit and have someone do it.

for a couple reasons, one you have already answered yourself.

i already knew what was needed to be done to remove and install the IFS diff, the time difference between just swapping out the diff and dropping it and rebuilding it, then reinstalling it is about a few hours and no warranty.

the other reason is because i would have a spare front diff if the one i swap in breaks, i can give the old diff a good ol acid bath, rebuild it and have it in my truck when i need it.

i know i can re-gear it, but not the point or the question. the question i am looking for an answer for is:
Q: Does anyone know where i can buy a complete front diff assembly with 4:56 gearing?
A: ???

i have looked everywhere and cant find anyone that sells them, at least re-geared anyways, not a very big market right now.

Yes it would be a few more hours of work... and the warranty thing is simple you buy gears from a company that will give you a warranty and have them installed by a company that backs up thier labor... oh look now you do have a warranty on your front diff.

I like your idea of a spare but 99% it will not be your front diff that has a breakage in your front end. so a spare is over kill unless you are made rock crawling(which i know is not the case having IFS) or you have a sand runner doing huge jumps.

So to answer your question... and why the market is not big for a front diff with gears on a tacoma... well a couple reasons but i already answered them myself just above in this post.

If I knew of anyone that did sale this I would tell you but I don't. I am sure you can call someplace like all pro ,marlin crawler, trialmaster and see if they would be willing to make you a custom set up.. or you can go to a junk yard, a yota dealership, or find someone who is doind a SAS and get a front diff and then do the gears on it.

and If you do find someone who sales it like you want let me know..

wasn't trying to be rude in my last post, was in a big rush. i am in the military, and in Iraq so time means a lot to me, and getting things done faster means i get more play time when i am home.
i will most likely end up buying a new front diff and re-gearing it, my wifes 98 4runner is basically getting the same work i put into my taco, minus the charger so getting a 2nd front diff sort of pans out there also, she is getting the same gear ratio that i am going to be using 4:56.

i do thank you for the information though, i have already tried all of the most common places, will probably end up just getting er done at a local shop when i return....

Go to the TTORA.com site and look in the for sale section ... they have front diffs all the time for sale used. You are very welcome for the info and sorry if i sounded rude also.
