hey guys im new to the site. so far i like the site, has great information and lots of nice people. well heres my question. i've been into vw for a couple years i built my first car when i was 15. it was a baja bug with a 2.3l pinto motor. lots of fun it was. daily driver to work and schol everyday. well i ended up getting rid of it and getting a 1995 tacoma. 77k miles,4wd, super clean,5 spd. and ive always wanted to make these into adaily driven pre-runner but i wanted to build a fast vw with a subaru wrx motor in it. so what im asking is what would be more fun? what would you do. i have big plans for only one or the other and i cant make up my mind. give me some help. just give me your own opinion on what you would rather see on the road. i wont be offended by any comments. thanks
Only you can choose your destiny boy, but if it comes to fruition, I'd love to hear about that Volks/WRX. What model VW would you use? I love to drive VW's but hate the maintenence, they're just not tough enough. The old VW's were fun when you could get in there and work on it. I think the Taco is the easier project, Good luck brother.
i would use a 77' standard air cooled beetle. i've seen them do 11's which got my attention. but since i got this truck i wanted to do stuff to it as well. i've always like off-roading and driving fast. can't do both because money gets spent to often. so ill either do long travel on the taco or vw/wrx bug. but i think your right the taco would be easier. its stronger, reliable and parts galore in aftermarket stuff. thanks for your post
Just keep one thing in mind, if you ever need parts for the Taco, your probably gonna have a hard time finding them at the salvage yard. My friend in AZ told me he can't find any because all the southern junkyards ship out crashed Toyo trucks to mexico. And since I bought my Taco I found the same to be true in the Maryland, just no parts trucks to be found.
