| | | drive shaft sqweek im new to this thing and i was wondering if you guys had experienced the same problem i have or if you have any ideas to what it could be. i recently purchased a 02 xtra cab pre-runner 2.7l in november and everything was great until about three weeks ago i started hearing this light high pitched sqweek coming from what i believe is the drive shaft. i checked the brakes and belts and so on so i know it cant be any of these. so i got the grease gun out and greased the zerk fittings on the drive shaft i recall it was probably about 6 or 7 of them. the one that took alot of grease was the slip joint though. but ater driving a few hundred miles the sqweek is still there. maybe it could the bearings but man the truck only has 50,000 miles on it. i dont want to take it to the dealership if its something that i could possibly fix myself. hopefully its nothing major, i got 185,000 miles on my '89 and its never needed anything major except for normal maintainence. i'd appreciate any feed back you guys have thanks. |

| | Re: drive shaft sqweek Kind of hard to tell, but you bought it used and don't know what it's been through. My first thoughts are to check the drive shaft support bushing (that supports the rear d/-shaft 1/2 way). My other thoughts are a wheel bearing going bad. But most likely the support bushing. I hope this helps. Bray |

| | Re: drive shaft sqweek i had a similar squeeking problem on my 01 double cab tacoma and it drove me crazy!
it was easy to fix
first, i removed the driveshaft from the flanges that connect it to the transmission case and the 3rd member. (mark the flanges so you get them indexed correctly when you reinstall the driveshaft, it may not be necessary but it puts it back in the original position)
second, i lightly greased the flange faces (one at the transmission and the 3rd member)
third, reinstall the driveshaft.
this fixed my problem and i haven't had any squeeking since then after 30K! |

| | | Re: drive shaft sqweek Mine done the same thing, and there was a dry fitting on the driveshaft in a tight spot on the first U joint. It took an needle adaptor to my grease gun to reach it. |

| | Re: drive shaft sqweek So I was greasing the drive shafts last night and i couldn't find the 9th one, but it is in the middle of the double u-joint, I have to take the one bolt out to get it i don't recall ever greasing it before
The point is thanks |
