Default stealership says I have leaky shock(bilstein) @27k

Went in for an oil change yesturday. I get done and the stealership says that my front drivers side shock has a leak. My truck is an 02 2.7L 5speed with the TRD package, and I have the bilstein shocks. This truck only has 27k miles on it and has only been lightly abused.
Although I have low miles I am out of warranty time, so they wont be replacing them.
My question is, how do I really know if its leaking, my truck is pretty dirty from snow, slush mud etc, and its way too cold here to be washing my truck. Obviously getting under there and looking I cant tell.
Is the stealership just bs'ing me, or is this a commen thing for the bilsteins. If so I will be really surprised.
By the way the stealership wants $435 plus tax to put on new ones lol, no thanks I think I will do it myself.

No surprised, I replaced mine at 35k, 18 months old, I had the passanger side freeze-up. I have 02 v6 std TRD xcab.

they are not hard to do yourself, a little dangerous to play with the springs, you can get a set of spring compressors at AutoZone or have a machine shop swap them out for a few bucks if you take them in. there are there bolds on top (dont remove center bolt, it holds the works together, at least til you get the spring compressed) and one big bolt and nut at bottom, just jack up the front of the truck and take off the wheels, then you can pull them out pretty easy.

I bought Bilstein Heavy Duty to replace the TRD ones, they were a little less, very slightly more stiff, but take a beating and don't fade, I have used mine pretty good rock crawling at Paragon and they don't complain
